Azure environment with automation

Danaher is an innovative multinational science and technology company with multiple businesses worldwide that help customers solve complex problems and improve the quality of life on earth. Through acquisitions and a strong corporate culture in the area of improvement processes, healthy business growth is achieved, which may culminate in the creation of a new company. For example, three new, independent companies have been started in the past seven years. This way of working requires a thoughtful IT strategy. Similarly for the latest split-off of Danaher: Veralto. 17,000 colleagues divided into three business units had to be disconnected from Danaher’s central IT Infrastructure services and start using a new IT environment. One Zero IT, together with sister companies Rvados and ncubed, and in collaboration with the Corporate IT team at Danaher, for this new environment to be ready for use within the ambitious deadline of a month and a half.

The result

One Zero IT provided the expertise to set up the new corporate IT core infrastructure for Veralto using automation. Time was the key component in this project. Within a month and a half, a new Azure Networking and Workspaces tenant was fully integrated with Terraform. By putting away as much automated as possible, the IT team had less manual work, a lower error rate, more consistency and faster delivery. Through knowledge transfer and training, Veralto’s new IT team is now able to continue developing with automation and the built assets themselves as well.

The approach

Together with the IT team of Danaher formed One Zero IT, Rvados and ncubed one Azure Squad. To meet the tight deadline, work was done in clear project phases that sometimes ran in parallel due to time constraints:

1. Retrieve and establish requirements

• Everything conceived had to take into account a migration in the future.

2. Preparation of the design and architecture for the new situation, with approval by Microsoft

3. Setting up the automation platform

4. Building the new architecture:

• Basic network connectivity infrastructure: connecting Azure to Equinix Network Edge, allowing companies to use corporate services internally secure.
• Basic infrastructure, servers, authentication and policy
• Security
• Other infra issues such as logging and backup

Azure DevOps (version control and CI/CD) was used to build the new environment. The deployment was performed using Terraform Cloud.

One Zero IT drafted the advice for this project and translated the customer brief into concrete building blocks. Rvados was involved with Azure Workspaces expertise and finally ncubed provided further knowledge around Azure. Because the different units and 90North colleagues work closely together behind the scenes, the team acts as one towards the client.

And now?

Veralto is following the transfer of One Zero IT and 90North now able to manage the infrastructure themselves and grow with the business. Also for new challenges, such as rapidly rolling out telephony infrastructure in the Azure environment, is again the knowledge of One Zero IT, Rvados and ncubed enabled and continues the collaboration between 90North and Danaher healthy and ready for future projects.
