Connectivity Consultant Mahmoed: ”Being continuously challenged”

Mahmoed joined the club at One Zero IT in 2020. Yet for him, it only feels like a year ago: ”how quickly time goes by when you’re having a good time.” As a Network Consultant, Mahmoed decomplicates our clients’ network issues. Mahmoed is the prime example of someone who is truly passionate about his work. He prefers to be in books, podcasts or Youtube videos 24/7 to learn and experiment with the latest connectivity techniques.

Very welcome

From the very first contact, Mahmoed felt very welcome at One Zero IT. Mahmoed: ”The interview was so personal and interesting, very different from what I was used to at other companies and recruiters. The culture is open, warm and welcoming. You can really be yourself. As an employee, you really stand on one and they look at which assignment fits your knowledge, development path, but also your private situation.”

In love with the combination of networking and automation

Back in the day, Mahmoed used to fix computers and networks for his neighbors. The challenge and complexity of the connectivity profession makes it the perfect job for him. ”Anything complex, I find interesting. Within connectivity, developments are going so fast. New techniques are added every year, so you are always challenged and keep developing yourself. I prefer to combine networking with automation. Many companies want to do something with this, but don’t know how.”

Daring to say no

What Mahmoed likes most of all about his job? ”Holding a customer by the hand and bringing him to the other side. Often there is insufficient knowledge in-house to get things done. My job is to leave the customer with a good feeling, so that the company has enough confidence to take back control of the network and operations. Yet it is also especially important to dare to say no if something is not possible. That’s how we keep the cooperation clear and transparent.”

Making an impact

In assignments, Mahmoed always tries to contribute to society. In recent years he has worked for important government agencies to improve the security of the Netherlands. Mahmoed: ”Those kinds of projects do provide an extra challenge, because you are dealing with a very complex organization and sensitive information. One day I am involved in technical content and the next day more at the project management level. The best part is that I can really make a positive difference in those projects by preventing serious problems.

Determining my own development

That technology is moving so fast makes it even more important and fun for Mahmoed to develop himself. ”At One Zero IT, I have the space to determine my own development. This way I can delve further into the combination of network and automation and become the very best in it. I try to obtain two certifications a year. Right now, for example, I am working on the Cisco DevNet professional course. Also, learning from colleagues during the connectivity meetings that are regularly organized is super valuable for my development. My goal is to become better than colleagues Robin and Tony, then I have succeeded haha.”
