Cloud Consultant Lex: ”Consultancy is not my thing”

Lex has been one of our trusted consultants from the very beginning. A 1 hour job interview turned into 4,5 hours and now Lex has been sharing love, suffering and most of all a lot of fantastic knowledge in the field of cloud and automation with us and our clients for 6 years. As he himself says: ”The basis was gold and it still is.”

Not a born consultant

Lex is a special one, because consulting is actually not necessarily his thing. Yet he has been with the club for 6 years. So how does he last so long? ”The reason I like it here so much is really the culture. And that’s actually pretty crazy, because most of the week I work at the customer’s site. At One Zero IT, I can really be myself. There are no expectations you have to meet, which ensures that we all feel the freedom to make the most of it in our own way.”

Flying keeper

As a Cloud Consultant, Lex is somewhat in between an engineer and architect. He designs cloud environments, but also likes to work on the technical details himself. The role of flying keeper is right up his alley. Lex: ”You arrive at an assignment and are thrown in the middle of it. Every time, it’s a kind of puzzle you have to solve. You have to find your way through the organization, but also in terms of content. The more complex the puzzle, the more enthusiastic I become. I get totally absorbed and see it as a challenge to put the pieces in the right place.”

The cloud is going rock hard

Lex translates customer demand into technical functionality. And where possible, he prefers to do something with automation as well. ”What I find special about this profession is how fast and furiously the cloud moves. You really have to put effort and time into keeping your knowledge up to date. You could almost have a kind of fomo, because the developments go so fast. So I always keep on learning. Not only out of my own interest, but also during an assignment. You keep seeing new things, diving into new techniques, or looking at how to add new cleverness.” A ls Chapter Lead Cloud, Lex focuses not only on his own continued development, but that of the entire team within the Chapter Cloud.

Making people happy

Lex becomes especially happy by making others happy. When I have been able to use my knowledge to make a difference or to help the customer a step further, it feels like a victory. The real satisfaction I get is from a team effort: delivering a great solution together with a team of my own consultants and IT professionals. It is super rewarding to be part of that.”

A club of fine, capable people
